What I've Learned About Traveling Solo In The Past Six Months
The past six months have been a unique experience for me. A lot of my friends were surprised at how much I was enjoying traveling solo and the benefits that come with it. In many ways it's been an eye opener that the travel community is quite small when you look around, but some parts are so out there if it were not true then everyone would know (and I would have heard from someone). But reality is sometimes stranger than fiction, so either way we're going to be posting about both things today. When I first started traveling solo, I worried that I wouldn't like my surroundings, or find any locals, but these were the least of my concerns. In fact, the hardest thing was simply getting used to being alone. These are six things I've learned from traveling solo for the past six months.
One of the most important things to know about solo traveling is that it's not for everyone. You'll have to make some sacrifices in your life if you want to be able to travel as a solo female. Here are some things I've learned about traveling solo in the past six months:
You need money. Traveling alone as a woman, especially when it comes to long-term trips, can be expensive. You're more likely to get fleeced by taxi drivers and guesthouses, and every hostel or hotel room costs more than twice what it would if you were sharing it with someone else. That being said, there are ways around this problem and other expenses that come along with traveling alone as a woman. For example, many hostels offer private rooms for less than $20 per night. You can also find Couchsurfing hosts who will let you stay in their homes for free—just be sure that they don't mind letting strangers stay over before they accept you as a host!
The internet is your friend! One thing I really didn't expect when I started planning my first solo trip was how much research would go into it. There are so many different
I've learned a lot about traveling solo in the past six months, and I'm still learning new things every day.
I've also been on a few vacations with my wife, so I know what it's like to travel with someone else. But traveling alone is something I've never done before.
So here are some of the things that have happened to me since leaving home.
1. You'll meet people you never would have otherwise met.
2. You will be robbed by someone who is not your date or partner. And it will be scary as hell.
3.You will learn how to take care of yourself when you're out of touch with civilization for too long (or longer).
4. You'll get homesick at first because this is amazing and everything but then you'll forget about it and start enjoying your own company again!
